Graham Potter became Brighton's No 1 target after sacking Chris Hughton
Swansea have offered Graham Potter a new contract in the hope of persuading him to reject Brighton’s interest and stay in South Wales, Sky Sports News understands.
Brighton saw an initial approach to Swansea knocked back on Tuesday and the Seagulls are yet to make a second bid to make Potter Chris Hughton's successor.
Sky Sports News understands Potter is happy at Swansea and could be tempted to continue his rebuilding job at the Liberty Stadium, despite being attracted by the prospect of managing in the Premier League.
Potter still has two years left on his current contract, which includes a release clause of just under £2m and Brighton are prepared to pay that for the 43-year-old.
Brighton have been impressed with Potter's handling of a difficult situation at Swansea and their ongoing financial challenges, securing a 10th-placed finish in the Championship and an FA Cup quarter-final appearance.
He also fits with Brighton's desire for an English coach. Brighton's technical director Dan Ashworth left a similar role at the FA in the autumn, where his focus was to get more English managers into the Premier League.
