Match Report: West Ham v Everton – 30/03/19

FT: West Ham 0-2 Everton – 30/03/19

Both teams were looking to build momentum in this game with both the toffees and the hammers winning their previous games against Chelsea and Huddersfield respectively. West Ham could move into 7th with a win here but Everton could leapfrog the irons into 9th and be 1 point off Wolves in 7th.

An early corner was whipped in by Gylfi Sigurdsson for the blues, and his out-swinger met the head of Kurt Zouma who powered his header low and it bounced up over Aaron Cresswells head and into the top right corner. The start of dreams from Everton but an absolute catastrophe for West Ham.

The next chance of the game fell to the away side when Richarlison cut in and found Gylfi Sigurdsson. The man from Iceland sent through Dominic Calvert-Lewin who saw his shot saved, but the ball came right back out to him and he played the ball to Sigurdsson in the 6-yard box. He volleyed it goal wards but it was expertly saved by Fabianski. Should’ve really been 0-2 here, Fabianski keeper the hammers in this.

Finally, Everton had their second when Seamus Coleman received the ball off of Andre Gomes, the Irishman found Richarlison who waited and then found Coleman again on the overlap. Coleman played the ball across goal and the ball found its way to Bernard. Who easily tapped it in. A great team goal by the blues, West Ham look like they haven’t got out of bed yet.

West Ham finally had a chance! Lucas Perez muscled and Everton player off the ball and fed it into the feet of Lanzini. The argentine ran into the central area where he eventually got sandwiched but the ball fell right to Robert Snodgrass who fancied himself. He curled his shot just wide but it had Jordan Pickford panicking. Better from West Ham!

The final chance of the game fell to Everton, who had absolutely dominated this game. Lucas Digne swung in a corner which met the head of Richarlison. The Brazilian powered the header right off the bar, there would’ve been no saving that, an absolute bullet!

Overall it was a deserved win for Everton who now leapfrog West Ham into 9th and are now 1 point away from European qualification. West Ham drop to 11th and have bottled another chance to go 7th. It’s still all to play for the though in the middle of the premier league. Everton face a tough task in Arsenal next at Goodison Park which will be a must win for either team. West Ham face Chelsea away, which again, is a must win for both teams.
